This popular design was created in the optical workshops and frame factories of 1950s Britain. This army of frame makers designed and supplied opticians across the country with NHS frames and ‘private’ frames for those who could afford it. This design was a male/female hybrid; a heavy duty frame for women, also liked by some men. The slight upsweep of the top rim gives the frame an angular look that adds character to rounder faces.
