In an age where culture and trends often feel transient, multi-award-winning artist Pritt Kalsi stands as a testament to authenticity. A lifelong photographer, filmmaker, music producer, and DJ, Pritt’s creative journey has remained deeply rooted in the Hip Hop movement since his formative years in Birmingham’s vibrant cultural landscape. His story is one of devotion to art and community—qualities that resonate with Black Eyewear’s ethos of celebrating timeless design.

Pritt’s early fascination with the burgeoning graffiti and Hip Hop scenes of the 1980s paved the way for a creative career that defies categorisation. Inspired by the sounds and styles of Birmingham, Pritt immersed himself in the craft of DJing, sampling, and beat-making, all while honing his talents in design, photography, and filmmaking. His dedication took him to New York City, where he connected with Hip Hop legends like Marley Marl, DJ Premier, and Africa Bambaataa, documenting a movement from within its core. This passion culminated in the influential documentary The King of the Beats, which not only celebrated Hip Hop’s iconic figures but also sparked beat competitions worldwide.

Through his work in photography and film, Pritt continues to immortalise moments in music and culture, creating a legacy of visual and auditory storytelling that speaks to generations. From album photography to gallery features in Diggers magazine, his images capture the raw spirit of the artists he admires, echoing his own respect for craftsmanship and tradition.

Pritt’s connection to Black Eyewear was serendipitous, introduced by a mutual friend, Andy Higgs.  In his own words, “Any time I wear these glasses, I get stopped in the street—‘Where did you get them?’”

As Pritt embarks on new ventures—releasing his 20th record, co-directing projects with Grammy-winning artist Common, and designing unique pieces—the spirit of Hip Hop continues to inspire his path. At Black Eyewear, we’re honoured to accompany him on this journey, providing eyewear that complements his distinctive vision and unwavering authenticity. Pritt Kalsi’s story is one we admire and one that speaks to our own commitment: timeless design, original craftsmanship, and an enduring dedication to creative legacy.
